CubeSpace has been open for a year today! We are having celebrations here: a potluck lunch and a champagne/sparkling beverage and cake celebration from 4 - 6. All of which is very exciting, but I also wanted to take a little time to reflect on the past year.
A year ago, we were sitting here, fully staffed, waiting for someone to walk in the door. And waiting. And waiting. There were days when no one came through the front door who wasn't paid to be here. Now, a slow day is one when we only have 10 people working in cubes.
A year ago we were doing everything for the first time: everytime a customer walked in, we had to figure out how to do what they wanted. Now, we know the basics, and only have to carefully think through how to do something occasionally.
A year ago we talked about how we were creating a community, how people were going to get to know each other, and enjoy hanging out together, and make useful business contacts. Now, that's actually happening. Our members go out to lunch together. They turn to each other for business advice and services. They participate in the parts of community that appeal, or stay to themselves as the motivation takes them.
A year ago, no one ever showed up to knitting night except for CubeSpace staff. Admittedly, some things don't change. Hope to see many of you soon.
