How many have made their New Year resolutions? How many are moving last year’s resolutions to this year? How many are bumping the 2006 resolutions up to this year? How many remember what 2006 resolutions were? How often do we make commitments to ourselves that we don’t keep? Are we the first to let ourselves down before keeping our commitments to others? How do we value who we are first in our lives?
So why do we year after year make resolutions or commitments we can’t, don’t, or won’t keep? It only set us up for false expectations, feeling of failure and in the long term we end up putting them off until next year. When we find that we aren’t really going to the gym or sneaking a fast food lunch what do we do? We start to blame ourselves, our negative self talk starts to beat us up. We aren’t good enough, or we are a failure, why can’t I just not put that in my mouth, I will go to the gym tomorrow. I am just to busy to eat right or go to the gym. These are things we tell ourselves. We think we can lose 20 pounds in 30 days and that is not a real goal or we think we can start eating right but we don’t get good support or healthy food. So what is the answer? How can we make a healthy goal and keep it?
Come learn 6 steps to goal-setting for the new year.
